Asst Engineering Technician-Structural Designer

About the Role

Under close supervision, performs entry- to mid-level tasks providing technical support to engineering teams. Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modelling) to assist in creation, modification, and maintenance of technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables. Onsite role with possible travel to construction sites as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering deliverables such as drawings and 3D models under close supervision using AutoCAD, Bentley and other relevant software.
• Learn and apply fundamental engineering principles and established design practices to develop or modify less complex to moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
• Apply knowledge of applicable standards, systems, document control requirements, departmental guidelines, and relevant codes in compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Ensure all deliverables comply with project-specific codes, standards, and technical requirements.
• Perform self-checks and apply the Black & Veatch Quality Program to assigned deliverables.
• Coordinate with engineers and other designers to interpret design concepts and support drawing revisions.
• Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
• Provide support for field activities when required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Structural Technology, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering design discipline (preferred).
• Typically 1+ year related work experience as a Structural Design Technician or in a related role.
• Proficient in AutoCAD or other relevant design software; familiarity with Bentley, MicroStation, Navisworks, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Autodesk Revit / BIM 360, Tekla Structures is an advantage.
• Basic understanding of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to steel framing/detailing, architectural or civil site works.
• Basic knowledge of EPC infrastructure (Power Plant, Utilities, Renewable, or Oil & Gas) is advantageous.
• Willing and able to travel or work at construction sites as required.
• Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements which may include background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
