About the Role
The Advanced Quality Engineering (AQE) Leader (Sr. Manager) is responsible for deploying the overall global new product introduction program for a Strategic Product Line Portfolio within the Digital Data Networks (DDN) business unit. This role drives Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) from program start through successful Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Safe Launch Containment and Engineering Change Notices, and reports to the Sr. Director of Global Quality for DDN.
Responsibilities
- Lead a global team of Advanced Quality Engineers supporting all new product introductions for the assigned Strategic Product Line Portfolio.
- Drive all AQE activities from project inception to product launch and introduction using APQP methodologies.
- Partner with Product Development Engineering (PDE), Manufacturing Process Development Engineering (MPDE), Project Management, Factory/Production Quality Engineering (PQE) and Reliability & Testing Engineering (R&T) to execute advanced quality activities for NPI.
- Serve as liaison between engineering and plants to ensure robust process capability on programs and attend project/APQP meetings with customers and program teams.
- Develop and deliver Control Plans, Capability Studies, part drawings, inspection instructions, gage design and R&R, DFMEAs, PFMEAs, AFMEAs, and ensure DfMA principles are applied.
- Define/approve Design Validation Test (DVT) and quality plans; authorize that DVT results meet product specifications and customer requirements.
- Champion 8-Ds for prototype/process problem solving, manage Change Control, identify special characteristics, and assemble/submit PPAP packages per customer requirements.
- Work with MPDE to ensure manufacturing processes and equipment meet defined quality and capability levels; support Final Tool Approval (FTAR) and Comprehensive Tool Approval Report (CTAR).
- Team with Supplier Quality Engineers to support Supplier PPAPs and conduct/analyze supplier process capability studies.
- Perform Six Sigma capability analysis of new equipment/processes and analyze SPC data to reduce variation.
- Facilitate training, share best practices and lessons learned, support NPI complaint investigations, postmortem reviews, and implementation of control plans for NPI shipments.
- Regularly report to executive management on performance and effectiveness of the Global Supplier Quality Program.
- Drive a high performance organization through coaching, feedback, accountability, development, resource loading, and role clarity.
Qualifications
- Experience leading global AQE or advanced quality teams for new product introductions in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of product design, manufacturing processes and equipment, customer end-application and risk-based tools (DFMEA/PFMEA).
- Proven experience with APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, capability studies, gage R&R, DVT, Change Control and launch containment.
- Experience working cross-functionally with PDE, MPDE, PQE, R&T, Program Management and Supply Chain.
- Skilled in SPC analysis, Six Sigma methods and structured problem solving (8-D).
- Ability to manage and develop teams, report to senior management and drive organization effectiveness.
