Project Commissioning Manager - Data Center Commissioning

About the Role

The Data Centre Commissioning Project Manager (CxPM) is responsible for managing and coordinating the entire testing and commissioning lifecycle of data centre projects to ensure systems are delivered fully operational, compliant, and aligned with the project’s design intent and performance requirements. The role bridges design, construction, operations, and client handover for all critical MEP, ICT, and life safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and execute the commissioning management plan, including schedule, procedures, and reporting framework; define commissioning scope, stages, and deliverables for mechanical, electrical, controls, and IT infrastructure.
• Integrate commissioning activities into the master project schedule and lead commissioning readiness reviews and stage-gate approvals.
• Manage and oversee all commissioning activities from pre-functional testing through integrated systems testing (IST) and client acceptance.
• Ensure MEP systems (power distribution, UPS, generators, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, BMS, fire protection, etc.) are commissioned to design intent and industry standards (e.g. ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, TIA-942).
• Coordinate vendor and subcontractor commissioning teams for sequencing, documentation, and quality; track and close out commissioning issues, deficiencies, and punch-list items.
• Review and approve commissioning documentation, including test scripts, checklists, and reports; maintain full traceability from design intent to operational verification and ensure as-built drawings, test results, and certifications are complete prior to handover.
• Serve as primary interface between project team, client, consultants, and vendors; lead commissioning progress meetings and report status to VP Projects and client representatives; support client witnessing, demonstrations, and sign-offs.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with live testing, energisation, and systems integration; ensure compliance with HSE procedures and applicable codes, standards, and certification requirements (e.g. Uptime Tier, LEED).
• Manage transition from project delivery to operations, support client operations/facilities during initial occupancy and performance verification, and coordinate lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 10+ years’ experience in large-scale MEP or mission-critical project delivery, with at least 5 years in data centre commissioning management.
• Experience with data centre liquid cooling systems highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of data centre infrastructure systems, redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N), and integrated testing protocols.
• Proven track record managing multi-disciplinary commissioning teams and coordinating vendors/subcontractors.
• Familiarity with international standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, Uptime Institute, TIA-942).
• Excellent communication, coordination, and reporting skills; professional certifications desirable: CxA, LEED AP, PMP, or Uptime Accredited Tier Specialist.
