This role focuses on developing and qualifying new assembly processes, performing manufacturability proofs-of-concept, and supporting New Product Introduction builds within an electronics manufacturing environment, rather than sustaining existing processes.

Summary
An HPS engineer resident at the site, focused on what is new rather than what is running. Develops and qualifies new assembly processes, runs manufacturability POCs, evaluates new materials and suppliers, and stays with the NPI build to troubleshoot and execute. This is deliberately not a sustaining process engineering role.
Detailed Description
- Develop and qualify new assembly processes: trials, parameters, tooling, process window and Cpk.
- Execute manufacturability POCs on the line against the success criteria set with HPS NPD.
- Evaluate new materials, adhesives, fasteners and assembly methods with the site and with suppliers.
- Be present through NPI builds: troubleshoot in real time, keep the build moving, and record what actually happened.
- Support conversion of a qualified process into the site's PFMEA, control plan and work instructions without losing content.
- Feed process capability data into the site capability matrix and the DFA and DFM rule sets.
- Raise Process Development Requests from the line back into HPS NPD.
- Support EHS and ergonomics assessment for new assembly processes and equipment.
KPI:Process development and qualification reports with Cpk · POC execution records · material and method evaluation · build support and troubleshooting record · capability matrix input.
Measured on: Process validated and qualified before PVT · POC slots used against committed · first pass yield on early builds · 4M readiness at build start.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Six to twelve years in assembly process engineering on an electronics manufacturing site, with genuine new-process introduction experience.
- Willing to be on the floor through a build window and to write the report afterwards.
Physical Demands
- Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
Typical Experience
Six to twelve years relevant experience.
Typical Education
Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Educational requirements may vary by geography.
