Architect Design Manager - Project Management Office

About the Role

The Architect Design Manager within the Project Management Office (PMO) leads design, planning, and oversight of architectural aspects for projects managed by the PMO, ensuring deliverables align with project requirements, client expectations, and regulatory standards. The role develops design briefs, coordinates with project teams and consultants, scopes and procures external design teams, and manages external architects through all project phases.

Responsibilities

• Develop the design brief for new projects in consultation with clients and project stakeholders.
• Lead the architectural design process from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with project objectives, codes, and standards.
• Prepare and review architectural drawings, specifications, and documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, MEP, and interior design professionals, to integrate architectural solutions.
• Support the scoping and procurement of external design teams, including preparing tender documents and evaluating proposals.
• Manage and oversee the work of external architects to ensure deliverables meet project requirements and quality standards.
• Participate in project planning, feasibility studies, and site assessments to inform design decisions.
• Support project managers in preparing reports, presentations, and documentation for clients and stakeholders.
• Attend project meetings and site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure quality control.
• Advise on material selection, sustainability initiatives, and value engineering opportunities.
• Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and resources related to architectural scope.
• Ensure all architectural work complies with relevant building codes, zoning laws, and health and safety regulations.
• Mentor junior architects and contribute to continuous improvement of PMO processes and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
• Licensed architect preferred, or eligibility for licensure.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in architectural design and project delivery, preferably within a PMO or consultancy environment.
• Proficiency in design and drafting software (such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar).
• Strong understanding of building codes, construction methods, and sustainable design principles.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Skills / Technical Skills

• Design and drafting software proficiency (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp or similar).
• Project management and documentation for client/stakeholder reporting.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance, building codes and health & safety requirements.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving and strong interpersonal/coordination abilities.

Additional Information

• Reporting: The Architect Design Manager reports directly to the Director of Engineering.
• Work arrangement: Primarily office-based with periodic site visits; occasional travel may be required.
