About the Role

This is a full-time, remote role for a Metallurgist. The Metallurgist will analyze and optimize metallurgical properties of die steel grades and support production, quality, and sales teams with technical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize metallurgical properties of die steels, including hardenability, toughness, wear resistance, and dimensional stability
• Develop and refine heat treatment cycles (stress relief, annealing, quenching, tempering, hardening)
• Review process parameters and troubleshoot quality issues related to microstructure, hardness, and mechanical performance
• Interpret test data, conduct failure analyses, and prepare clear technical reports and recommendations for production, quality, and sales teams
• Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to support product selection, process improvements, and new material or process development
• Maintain strong documentation and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in physical metallurgy and materials science, including phase transformations, microstructure–property relationships, and steel alloy behavior
• Experience with heat treatment processes for tool and die steels (stress relief, annealing, quenching, tempering, surface hardening)
• Proficiency in metallurgical testing and characterization techniques, including hardness testing, metallographic preparation, optical microscopy, and microstructure interpretation
• Ability to analyze process and quality data, identify root causes, and propose corrective and preventive actions
• Familiarity with machining and finishing processes for die steels (sawing, milling, grinding, deep hole drilling, finishing)
• Experience or exposure to surface treatment and finishing (coating, polishing, texture-making) is beneficial
• Competence in technical documentation and report writing, with clear communication for engineering, production, and customers
• Effective collaboration skills for working with remote, cross-functional teams and ability to work independently in a remote environment
