08 - Lead Engineer, Program/Project Mgmt

About the Role

Incumbents apply in-depth knowledge in a specific area of specialization as an NPI Specialist / Lead Engineer. Primary role is to provide engineering support and coordination of prototype build to ensure new assemblies are completed on time and on budget, and to support smooth transition from prototype to production.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support and coordination of prototype builds to meet schedule and budget targets.
• Review and interpret customer specifications and translate customer requirements into factory activities.
• Propose solutions for product architecture, schedules, technical risks, assumptions and resource requirements.
• Serve as program/project interface to coordinate new product launches/introductions and develop preliminary program timelines for customer quotes.
• Provide mechanical tool design support across business units and design, lay out, and implement new manufacturing and test processes to support capacity expansion.
• Develop and implement continuous flow concepts and/or Theory of Constraints methodology to reduce product cycle time.
• Document factory support activities, provide factory activity time estimates for pricing models, and provide feedback to engineering and support groups for production transition.
• Design tests, evaluate results and recommend solutions to improve SMT manufacturing processes; evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of design processes for systems and printed circuit boards, subassemblies and related products.
• In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment used for systems, printed circuit boards and subassemblies, including SMT methodologies.
• In-depth knowledge of materials, material science, components, robotics and machine programming.
• In-depth knowledge of industry and quality standards, SPC methodologies and statistical process control methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of product pricing, contracts and contract negotiations; excellent customer contact, negotiation and problem resolution skills.
• Strong IT platform knowledge including database design and programming; familiarity with UNIX, NT and database management systems.
• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, coordinate multiple changing deadlines and effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

Physical Demands

• Work performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes and hazardous substances.
• May require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on computer monitors or detailed data and repetitive manual movements (data entry, mouse use, calculator).

Typical Experience

Three to six years of relevant experience.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational requirements may vary by geography.
