About the Role

A Team Leader is responsible for the work and dynamics of a small product team (3-5 engineers). The role combines people leadership (~30% management time) with active participation in product development and technical ownership of agentic automation workflows.

Responsibilities

• Manage a small product team of 3–5 engineers (backend and frontend).
• Spend ~30% of time on management duties and the remainder contributing to product development.
• Participate in hiring and be responsible for onboarding new engineers.
• Manage team dynamics, give continuous constructive feedback, and support career growth for direct reports.
• Provide guidance and coaching to the team and foster a people-first approach.
• Redesign how engineering work ships by using autonomous agents as a default execution layer.
• Propose and operationalize agentic workflows end-to-end (spec → plan → execute → verify) to deliver outcomes faster.
• Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives in the codebase for cross-domain reuse.
• Use verification loops (tests, checks, evals, guardrails) to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable.

Qualifications

• Experience managing an engineering team (at least 2 direct reports).
• Extensive backend experience (Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or other functional programming experience preferred).
• Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Ability to think in systems: define specs clearly, break down plans, instrument verification, and close quality loops.
• Solid communication skills and proven organisational attention to detail.
• People-first leadership: inspire others, understand team dynamics, and support career growth.
• Ambitious and intentional about diversity, equality, and inclusion.
• Demonstrates strong automation and AI capabilities and AI fluency.

Additional Information

• You'll report to: Engineering Manager.
• Direct reports: 2–5 Engineers.
• Team: Engineering.
• Location: Anywhere in the world. Note: Remote positions are globally distributed, with geo-based compensation ranges.
• Start date: As soon as possible.
• Application process: roughly 6 hours across ~6 weeks — interview with recruiter; interview with hiring manager; (async) code challenge + review; interview with team members; Bar Raiser interview; Executive interview; offer and prior employment verification check.
• Annual base salary range for this full-time position: $75,450—$169,700 USD (actual pay depends on location, experience, and other factors).
