Asst Engineering Technician-Electrical Designer

Job Summary

Functions in an entry-level engineering technician capacity. Under close supervision, performs entry- to mid-level tasks requiring basic technical knowledge utilizing electronic applications, processes, standards and document control processes/procedures for the purpose of creating or modifying engineering deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering deliverables such as drawings and 3D models under close supervision using AutoCAD, Bentley and other relevant software.
• Learn and apply fundamental engineering principles and established design practices to develop or modify less complex to moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
• Apply knowledge of applicable standards, systems, document control requirements, departmental guidelines, and relevant codes to ensure deliverables comply with Black & Veatch policies, project-specific codes, standards, and technical requirements.
• Perform self-checks and apply the Black & Veatch Quality Program to assigned deliverables.
• Coordinate with engineers and other designers to interpret design concepts and support drawing revisions; coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information for design development.
• Provide support for field activities when required.

Qualifications

• Preferred Qualifications: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering design discipline; 1+ years of experience as an Electrical Design Technician or in a related role; proficient in AutoCAD or other relevant design software; proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe/Bluebeam; able to communicate in English both speaking and writing; familiarity with Bentley, MicroStation and Navisworks is an advantage; experience on Substation Projects is an advantage.
• Minimum Qualifications: Typically a minimum of 1 year related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
