Packaging Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Packaging Engineer to design, develop, test, and implement packaging solutions for automotive components. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams including product design, manufacturing, logistics, and quality to ensure packaging meets functional, cost, safety, and environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop efficient packaging for automotive parts (metal, plastic, electronic, etc.) ensuring product protection during transit, storage, and handling
• Evaluate and select appropriate materials based on product type, weight, and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to optimize packaging for cost, space utilization, and ease of use
• Create and maintain packaging documentation including specifications, CAD drawings, and test reports
• Conduct packaging validation and testing (vibration, drop, compression, environmental) as per automotive standards
• Support packaging development for new product introductions (NPIs) and engineering changes
• Lead packaging trials and implement corrective actions for damage reduction
• Ensure compliance with global packaging regulations, sustainability initiatives, and customer-specific requirements
• Analyze supply chain and logistics data to drive improvements in packaging performance
• Manage returnable packaging systems and track container usage
• Interface with OEMs or Tier-1 customers on packaging approvals and requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of experience in packaging design or engineering (automotive or manufacturing industry preferred)
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and packaging design tools
• Familiarity with ISTA, ASTM, and OEM-specific packaging standards
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials: corrugated, foam, plastics, metals, reusable systems
• Experience with SAP or other ERP systems is a plus
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize under tight deadlines
