Test Development Engineer - Optical Module

About the Role

The Client Optics Test Development Engineering for Luxetra focuses on rigorous testing and validation of optical transceivers to ensure high compatibility, reliability, and performance across Cisco and third-party platforms. This includes optics-level, platform-level, and stress testing methodologies to simulate diverse environments, identify potential failure points, and guarantee interoperability and consistent performance in demanding applications such as AI networks and data centers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support automated test solutions for next-generation client optical transceivers and sub-assemblies.
• Implement and validate automated optical test setups for client optics modules using Python or similar languages.
• Integrate and program electronic/optical test equipment such as Source Meters (Keithley, Keysight), optical power meters, Bit Error Rate Testers (BERTs), and DCA.
• Develop data acquisition and analysis scripts/tools to process large datasets, generate yield reports, and drive root-cause investigations.
• Deploy and troubleshoot test solutions on manufacturing lines and provide training and documentation for production teams.
• Collaborate with design, firmware, and reliability engineers to define test requirements, acceptance criteria, and failure analysis (FA) procedures.
• Identify gaps in test coverage and propose enhancements to test methodologies, automation, and process efficiency.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
• Experience: 8+ years of hands-on experience in test development for optical transceivers, photonics modules, or high-speed electronics.
• Technical skills: Strong Python programming skills (C#, LabVIEW a plus); proficient with optical and electronic test instrumentation and automation (VISA, PyVISA, SCPI, GPIB, USB, Ethernet); familiarity with SQL databases for test data management; GUI development experience (Tkinter, PyQt) is desirable; understanding of optical communications and fiber optics.
• Soft skills: Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
• Preferred: Experience deploying test solutions in high-volume manufacturing; knowledge of reliability/lifetime testing (e.g., TEC testing, thermal cycling); experience with data visualization tools and statistical analysis (e.g., JMP).
