The Seafreight Customs Brokerage Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding the team to achieve departmental goals, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives. This role focuses on optimizing processes, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a collaborative work environment to meet and exceed business targets.​

About the Job

This position is in the Seafreight department stationed at Bangkok Headquarter, working as a leader in Thailand Customs Brokerage function, with a reporting line to the Country Managing Director

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership & Compliance Oversight
    • Lead Customs Specialist and Consultancy efforts, including HS Code classification, customs privileges, and Advance Rulings
    • Oversee Customs Registration and Certifications (For example, AEO License, Free Zone License etc.)
    • Conduct internal audits to ensure full compliance with Thai Customs rules and regulations
    • Ensure full compliance with all relevant government departments related to Customs
  2. Team Management & Operational Coordination
    • Manage customs members across all locations
    • Monitor clearance processes and ensure all KPI targets are met
    • Resolve operational issues with both internal and external in timely manner
    • Transfer knowledge and guide the team on improvements and preventative actions
    • Provide training and guidance to personnel related to Customs work
    • Provide recommendations and areas for improvement to Product Head
  3. Government & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work and coordinate with government agencies, to ensure high quality of service and full compliance
    • Travel across provinces to meet with Customs Officers and customers
    • Regularly share up-to-date customs law and regulation knowledge with internal and external stakeholders
  4. Issue Resolution & Quality Assurance
    • Handle customs disputes, legal escalations, and complex issues
    • Respond promptly to customs inquiries from internal and external customers
    • Perform 100% screen and check on new and/or ad hoc customs entries before and after submission through Customs system
    • Serve as backup for second checks if customer specialist is away or unavailable
  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Participate in joint sales calls with Sales, KAM, or Product teams to bring in new business
    • Provide input, comment, solution, recommendations to Commercial and Product Teams when needed
    • Handle other tasks as assigned by Head of Airfreight / Seafreight / Contract Logistics – Thailand

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience, with a strong background in freight forwarding
  • Minimum 5 years of team management experience
  • Holding Active Customs Specialist Certification (AEO License)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of airfreight and seafreight customs processes and related documentation
  • Proven ability to transfer knowledge, resolve customs issues, and develop innovative customs solutions
  • Excellent team player with strong relationship-building skills
  • Willingness to travel across provinces to meet with Customs Officers and customers as required
  • Up-to-date knowledge of customs laws and regulations, with the ability to share this information with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in English is advantageous
