Manager, Supplier Development

About the Role

This position has direct responsibility to plan and execute APQP Quality program deliverables as defined in Adient Quality operating system – BOS and the program launch deliverables in PLUS. Management of Supplier APQP for program through delivery and approval of supplier PPAPs in alignment with program timing. Responsible for training and mentoring Quality Engineers and leading cross-functional teams within the Supplier Development Team (SDT).

• Manage large scale programs or assigned AQEs and ensure program timing and deliverables are met.
• Plan and execute Supplier Advanced Quality Planning elements: SAQP kick-off meeting, Process Sign-Off, Risk Analysis, line certification, Safe launch plans, and review/approval of Supplier PPAP.
• Review Supplier Prototype, Pre-Production and Production Control Plans; review Measurement System Analysis (MSA) plans and ensure gage studies (R&R, Bias, Linearity, Stability) are conducted and improved as needed.
• Complete inspection reports for components used in pre-production builds and perform capability studies for special characteristics; obtain customer deviations when required.
• Manage color/appearance approval process (AAR) from pre-grain to PPAP, including customer submission paperwork.
• Coordinate preparation and on-time delivery of PPAP packages and supplier quality deliverables: Control Plans, Capability Plans, Capability Studies, Part layouts, Gage design, Gage R&R, PFMEA, DFMEA (if applicable).
• Utilize applicable customer-specific systems (e.g. Ford WERS, SIMS, GM SQMS, Fiat Chrysler PRISM) and ensure appropriate statistical methods are used and deployed into Control Plans.
• Ensure customer, internal, and supplier quality issues are resolved using problem-solving methods (Kepner-Tregoe, 8-D, DOE, 5 Why, Red X) and drive follow-up actions.
• Develop inspection and containment plans for pre-launch builds and manage customer/supplier critical situations.
• Support continuous improvement across Adient disciplines and perform job functions in accordance with company policies and quality policy.
• Maintain summary problem issue tracking with corrective actions and regular updates to the quality manager.

• Understand customer requirements and provide guidance to team members to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
• Understand Adient & Customer requirement linkage and teach team to clarify and solve problems.

• Communicate often about safety (safety talk and feedback); ensure accident and near-miss reporting procedures are understood and complied with; assist with accident investigations & 8D reports.
• Be consulted on process changes, new lines, new equipment, layout changes; support and assist in safety activities and initiatives (safety policy, JCMS, CCRM, HSE management plant audit, lesson learnt implementation, HSE training, suggestions, near miss reports, safety week).
• Wear proper PPE and use proper work practices; zero tolerance & full compliance with high risk/critical work: Permit System, LOTO, working at height, confined space, contractor control, forklift, lift, foam operation, machine guarding, welding, transportation, live electrical, chemical.

Qualifications (Education, Skills, and Experiences)

• Education: A Bachelor’s Degree is required (or equivalent experience). Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years post qualification experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 5 years in the position of Assistant Manager/Sr. Advance Quality Engineer; ideally with a multinational company.
• Computer skills: Standard business software (Microsoft Office).
• Personal qualities: Ability to organize data logically, work at shop floor level, and communicate professionally to senior management in English.
• Required training/knowledge: IATF16949, Continuous Improvement, Total Quality Management, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, DOE, SPC. BOS auditor training preferred; waivers only by Advanced Quality Manager.
• Training in quality tools: FMEA, SPC, DOE, QFD, Quality Operating Systems (QOS) and Internal Quality Auditing.
• Understand and knowledgeable of GD&T tolerance system and IMDS material system.
