About the Role
Merchandise Manager - Commercial (Own Brand Non-Food) at Makro PRO. Responsible for developing and managing Makro's Own Brand non-food products, from market research and NPD planning through supplier collaboration, product launch and post-launch performance monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify products for Makro's Own Brand and report market, competition, sales and profit results to line manager and branded team.
- Work with branded team to conduct assortment review and identify Own Brand NPD plan; coordinate with Director, Sr. Buyer and Buyers to select existing shelf-products for private label development and identify suppliers for co-development.
- Launch new Own Brand items on time and at targeted cost to achieve new launch SKU, sales and profit budgets.
- Cooperate with and maintain relationships with suppliers who can reliably provide OB products; monitor product performance, identify root causes of shortfall and plan recovery actions with OB Sales Support & Analysis and branded team.
- Ensure products meet or exceed branded benchmarks in quality and are priced according to brand positioning; ensure product quality and efficacy meet Makro and Thai FDA standards and obtain certification where necessary in cooperation with QA.
- Ensure branded buyer maintains accurate product and supplier data in the computerized/ERP system.
- Work with branded buyer to produce Makro Mail Program materials and provide all necessary article, supplier, ordering and promotion information to stores.
- Make regular store visits to detect operational problems, follow up on product quality and presentation, and report findings to Commercial Director and relevant Buyers.
- Commit to supplier agreements (invoice control, price differences) as per contracts or confirmations; travel to visit suppliers and producers when necessary.
- Collaborate with OB Communication, Demonstration and Sales Support teams to develop launch activities and loyalty programs to drive sales.
- Perform other tasks as instructed by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain, Industrial Distribution or related field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in merchandising, category management, buying or own-brand/private label development within retail, FMCG or wholesale.
- Proven experience in Own Brand / Private Label product development, including NPD planning, supplier collaboration and product launch execution.
- Strong understanding of category management, assortment planning, pricing strategy and sales & margin optimization.
- Experience working closely with suppliers, manufacturers and internal stakeholders (Commercial, QA, Marketing, Sales Support).
- Solid knowledge of product quality standards, Thai FDA regulations and certification processes; experience coordinating with QA teams is an advantage.
- Strong commercial acumen; ability to manage cost structures, target pricing and profitability objectives.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering launches on time and within budget.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, negotiation and communication skills; high attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Proficient in MS Office and merchandising or ERP systems; data analysis skills are a plus.
- Good command of spoken and written English.
