About the Role
As a Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you help local leaders fulfill the Savior’s invitation to care for “the one.” By serving as a trusted advisor and resource, you strengthen leaders’ ability to identify needs, provide meaningful support, and foster lasting self-reliance. Onsite role with travel throughout Thailand as needed.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the local leader's first point of contact and establish yourself as a trusted advisor and resource.
- Work closely with leaders to identify and understand welfare and self-reliance challenges faced by members and assist leaders in accessing appropriate Church and community resources.
- Share resources in a manner that builds trust, strengthens relationships, ensures support reaches those in need, and follow up to assess utilization and effectiveness.
- Consult with leaders on members' challenges (education, finances, employment, emotional health, fast offerings, emergency preparedness) and support leaders in addressing these challenges.
- Identify, develop, and promote community and Church resources; build and maintain strategic relationships with educational institutions, employers, nonprofits, and community partners.
- Oversee operations of Bishop’s Order System including financial reconciliation and reporting.
- Provide orientation and strengthen leaders' understanding and application of welfare and self-reliance principles through conversations, events, workshops, or gatherings (e.g., FSY, YSA).
- Help local leaders implement area and general priorities and programs related to welfare and self-reliance (for example: Return Missionary Playbook; facilitate Perpetual Education Fund and Benson Scholarship applications).
- Assist with emergency response and humanitarian efforts, including stake-led or member-focused projects, as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Preferred 5–7 years of relevant professional experience; exceptional candidates with less experience but strong potential may be considered.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English and Thai.
- Demonstrated empathy and ability to understand and respond effectively to challenges faced by individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proven ability to train, coach, and mentor individuals and small groups.
- Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with leaders from educational institutions, employers, nonprofits, government agencies, or other community organizations.
- Mature understanding of self-reliance principles and experience helping individuals or communities strengthen self-reliance.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout Thailand and work effectively in a variety of settings outside a traditional office environment.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results with a sense of urgency.
- Strong customer-service orientation and commitment to serving others; passion for helping individuals and communities improve self-reliance and well-being.
