Medical Interpreter (Karen/English)

About the Role

I-Call International is looking to hire Karen/English interpreters to work remotely. As a consecutive Karen medical interpreter, your primary responsibility is to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and patients who speak Karen.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interpreting medical terminology, diagnoses, treatments, and other information between Karen-speaking patients and healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, and other medical staff
• Providing cultural mediation services to help patients understand the healthcare system and how to navigate it effectively
• Helping healthcare providers understand cultural differences that may affect patient care
• Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in the interpretation profession
• Documenting interpretation services provided, including the date, time, duration, and type of interpretation
• Keeping up-to-date with the latest medical terminology and healthcare practices to ensure accurate interpretation

Qualifications

• Fluency in Karen and English
• Experience in interpretation or translation
• Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with the healthcare system
• Good communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work well under pressure

Technical Requirements

• Good internet (15 Mbps download and upload speed)
• Good PC (core i7, 6th gen or higher with a minimum of 8GB RAM)
• USB headsets are compulsory (USB-wired headsets should be Logitech H390 or similar with noise cancellation)
• LAN (Ethernet) connection with ethernet cable
• Latency ≤ 100 ms
• HD Webcam (1080p)
• Professional working space with solid grey backdrop

Additional Information

Timings: Hourly shift program
Pay rate: 10 USD per hour
