Fact Finding Engineer for Industrial Generators

About the Role

In your role as a fact-finding engineer for industrial generators, you will be responsible for on-site condition diagnostics of air-cooled generators of various types and designs (≈15–300 MVA) as part of national and global service projects. Duties include visual inspection of major machine components (stator, rotor, excitation, bearings) and auxiliary equipment (e.g., coolers) based on defined criteria, performing electrical diagnostic measurements (winding resistances, insulation resistances, diode tests, loss factor, partial discharge, etc.) on high- and low-voltage windings, and evaluating results in accordance with applicable standards. You will compile and present findings to external customers and internal partners, support Service Engineering in developing optimization and repair measures, and coordinate with project management and service sales.

Responsibilities

• Conduct troubleshooting and fault analysis on electromechanical issues for industrial generators at customer sites; perform on-site inspections and data collection ('fact-finding') to diagnose equipment malfunctions and performance deviations.
• Perform electrical diagnostic measurements: winding resistance, insulation resistance, diode tests, loss factor, partial discharge, and evaluate results per applicable standards.
• Utilize specialized test equipment to gather and analyze system data to validate operational parameters.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals to support diagnostic and repair activities.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance according to service agreements and technical specifications; install, configure, and calibrate generator systems such as remote monitoring systems and associated components.
• Ensure all on-site work complies with company and industry safety standards; provide on-site guidance and basic operational training to customer personnel.
• Create detailed and accurate service reports documenting on-site activities, findings, parts used, and resolutions; communicate technical findings, repair status, and recommendations to customers and internal service management.
• Train and review the work of lower-level employees as a senior team member; collaborate with Service Engineering, project management, and service sales to support optimization, repair measures, and sales strategy.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Extensive experience as a Field Service Technician or Engineer, with specialization in industrial generators or large-scale rotating equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision and resolve difficult, non-routine technical problems.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
