Head of Project Controlling

About the Role

The Head of Project Controlling is the gatekeeper for all new investments at B.Grimm. This role provides strategic leadership in evaluating business viability, structuring deals, and mitigating risks to support management decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Lead the evaluation of all proposed investments in energy projects or new businesses, ensuring financial viability, alignment with corporate strategy, and adherence to risk appetite; provide formal review summaries and recommendations to upper management.
• Facilitate Project Committee meetings by challenging BD assumptions and resolving complex commercial and financial bottlenecks; validate BD proposals to ensure accuracy and clarity for management decision-making.
• Drive standardization of investment criteria and project controlling frameworks; improve approval workflows and centralized systems (e.g., BD Platform) to establish a single source of truth and maintain consistent standards across the organization.
• Partner with BD, Finance, Legal, Risk Management, Engineering and other teams to execute due diligence and ensure transparent, aligned, and compliant project assumptions.
• Establish a post-investment review framework to track actual project performance against initial BD assumptions, identify performance gaps, and collaborate with project execution teams on corrective actions.
• Direct a lean, high-performing project controlling team; mentor and elevate technical capabilities in advanced financial modeling, critical thinking, risk assessment and industry knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in Business Development, Project Finance, Investment Analysis, or Project Controlling.
• Extensive background in energy, independent power producer (IPP), or renewable energy sectors.

Skills

• Expertise in project feasibility evaluation, project finance structuring and asset valuation within the energy sector.
• Strong understanding of regional energy markets, cross-border investment frameworks, energy regulations, and key contracts including PPA, EPC and O&M agreements.
• Exceptional analytical ability to challenge assumptions, identify financial or operational risks, and present complex financial and technical data to management.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to mentor and elevate team capabilities.
