Automation Specialist

About the Role

The Automation Specialist serves as an expert in business operations with regard to automated processes. This position will perform assembly work, troubleshooting and basic maintenance on product in conjunction with operators and other related to Automation, GX & RMU’s. Monitor the operation of Automation production and assist operators on how to build and maintain the product effectively. The Automation specialist will suggest and support process improvements in order to achieve company objectives.

Responsibilities

• Build/assemble automation products meeting specifications and customer expectations, including reading schematics, preparing wiring looms, assembly work, design-issue troubleshooting, programming, and communication with UK-based design teams.
• Wiring of automation products (GX, RTU, RMU): read drawings, assemble and test to high wiring standards.
• Set up and support daily plant operations; operate and troubleshoot SMART RTU equipment and machinery to identify, propose and develop solutions for operational incidents; escalate unresolved issues to management/maintenance and assist in resolution.
• Design, specification, installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of automation equipment to improve plant operation/uptime and reduce operating costs.
• Work with complex PLC programs and advanced process control systems; maintain thoroughness and attention to detail.
• Liaise with manufacturing engineering/automation design team to assist in operational specifications and act as operational expert for finalized automated technologies.
• Assist operations, maintenance and automation groups with commissioning of new equipment or technologies; participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and support customer requirements.
• Perform basic maintenance on RTU/SMART equipment including preventative inspections; perform routine record keeping (Test Rig).
• Conduct on-the-job training with team members to ensure safe production and general troubleshooting of product.
• Identify and implement improvements in automation manufacturing processes; examine materials and work for defects to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Work from drawings, blueprints, sketches, work orders and verbal instructions as required; maintain a neat and orderly workplace; participate in team meetings and activities; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Diploma with at least 5 years' experience in automation production environment (preferably SMART industry), or Bachelor's degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering with 1 year work experience in electrical industry.
• Strong working knowledge of local rules and regulations.
• Exposure to automated systems knowledge.
• High English communication skills with ability to communicate and guide business managers and UK design teams.
• Able to read electrical and electronic schematic diagrams.
• Team player; confident, proactive and customer-focused approach.
• Process-driven with ability to drive continuous improvement and achieve defined KPIs; be an active member of the operational team.

Additional Information

• Optional but beneficial: basic/advanced programming of RTU (configuration tool, firmware upgrades, SCADA, module configuration and logic control).
• Understanding of working principles of RTU, LBS and RMU.
