About the Role

Location: Hybrid/Remote – Work from home / RCPI, 19 Frederick Street South, Dublin 2
Reports to: Manager, Education Delivery
Contract: 2-year Specific Purpose contract
Employment: Part-time
Closing date: 19 June at 16:00
Salary: €500 per day pro rata

Objective: Participate in the facilitation of tutorials for BST & 1st year HST O&G Trainees as part of the Teaching Programme rolled out in July 2023. Tutorials are hosted on Zoom within the RCPI Brightspace virtual learning environment; tutors will receive training in advance of each tutorial.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate tutorials for assigned BST and HST tutorial groups according to the agreed schedule
• Contribute to and moderate tutorial group discussion boards on Brightspace
• Provide academic support to BST and HST Trainees and encourage trainee interaction
• Monitor trainee progress, attendance and conduct in the virtual learning environment
• Identify trainees in difficulty and monitor shortfalls in attendance
• Keep detailed records of serious issues or breaches of codes of conduct
• Ensure adherence to all RCPI policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Education Function

Qualifications

• Recognised Medical Degree (MB BCh BAO or MB BS)
• In good standing with the General Medical Register of the Irish Medical Council
• MRCPI / MICGP or recognised equivalent
• Relevant clinical experience in a hospital environment, with at least 4 years working at registrar level
• Excellent facilitation and communication skills
• Computer literacy – adept at Microsoft suite
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team; enthusiasm and flexibility

• Experience with a virtual learning platform (eg, Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle)
• Formal postgraduate qualification in medical education (eg, master's level)
• MD or PhD awarded or submitted
• Previous experience of teaching and assessing learners in an academic environment

Tutor - Key areas of work

• Quarterly tutorials for BST trainees (four per academic year) and biannual tutorials for HST trainees, focused on case-based learning and reflection on online content
• Tutorials hosted on Zoom within Brightspace; tutors will attend RCPI training sessions on tutorial content

• Moderate discussion forums to provide clinical context and help trainees apply knowledge
• Respond to trainee queries on the board (eg, availability once per week on Wednesday evenings as an example)

• Training for clinical tutors will be provided prior to each tutorial
