Sr. Assoc. Director - Head of P&C Commercial - Engineering

About the Role

Responsible for achieving premium income generated from commercial business as per defined target and perform underwriting functions/results according to company's policy and guidelines. This position leads intermediated commercial lines channels including key partner banca business, branch generated, direct and Bangkok agent business of assigned lines of business (LOBs), with focus on Engineering and Natural Resources.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor Intermediated Commercial Lines across Brokers and Agency, Branch generated, Direct, Banca and Partnership, and Reinsurance Inward Business.
• Comply with Allianz Group underwriting Standards (Functional Rules) and manage escalations for complex matters requiring senior underwriting authority and decision making on Engineering and Natural Resources LOB.
• Recommend updates to work procedures to improve efficiency of the business unit.
• Underwrite complex new business and renewals; provide quotes in a timely and professional manner.
• Assess market conditions to determine competitive terms & conditions, reinsurance allocation, and arrange facultative reinsurance for new business quotes and renewal notices.
• Participate in constructing Commercial Lines business plan, budget and targets, and run activities to support the team in achieving production targets.
• Review market conditions and underwriting performance to identify key target markets and business opportunities.
• Operate interface for ASU process into Regional HQ and AZSE; ensure execution of Allianz Standards of Underwriting in AAGI.
• Ensure all work under designated responsibilities is performed in accordance with company policy and service standards.
• Collaborate with key internal business partners across the organization to deliver business objectives.
• Communicate and coordinate with customers (internal and external) to deliver high quality work in a timely manner.
• Supervise, coach and mentor team members to develop individual strengths and foster good morale and teamwork.
• Model continuous professional development and seek learning opportunities to enhance skills.
• Monitor producers' results and performance to ensure achievement of assigned targets.
• Regularly visit producers and key customers for relationship building and management; work with Matrix Manager in Regional Office to grow profitable books and obtain referrals when beyond assigned underwriting authority.
• Manage facultative reinsurance outward as required per approved securities lists.
• Portfolio and NAT CAT management to ensure profitability aligns with company objectives.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of experience in underwriting of commercial product lines, especially in Engineering, Construction and Natural Resources.
• Good engineering background and knowledge.
• Experience coordinating with overseas support units, regional office, HQ, and reinsurers.
• Strong underwriting skills with insurance knowledge in commercial product lines.
• Leadership and people management skills.
• Good business English communication.

Skills

• IT knowledge: Intermediate MS Office applications, database and internet-based applications, Power BI, and data analytics.
• Knowledge across all general insurance LOBs and related fields.
• Familiarity with AI-future tools (e.g., ChatGPT, CoPilot 365) is an advantage.
