Company Description
WD is building the infrastructure behind the AI-driven data economy. As AI scales, so does data. Every interaction, every model, every system generates data that must be stored, managed, and made accessible over time. That’s where we come in. We combine deep engineering expertise with global-scale manufacturing to deliver the storage systems that make AI possible, powering hyperscale data centers, cloud platforms, and enterprise infrastructure worldwide. This isn’t theoretical work. It’s real systems, at real scale, people solving some of the hardest challenges in technology today. We’re looking for people who want to build, solve, and operate at that level. Join us and let’s shape the future of data.
Job Description
The Supply Chain Engineer is responsible for driving supply chain readiness, robustness, and performance for factory manufacturing. This role partners closely with internal engineering, operations, quality, and external manufacturing partners to assess risk, manage change, and lead initiatives that improve cost, quality, delivery, and continuity of supply across the WD manufacturing ecosystem. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partner with HDD factories and external manufacturing partners to support end-to-end supply chain manufacturing readiness.
- Support new product introductions (NPI), process changes, and capacity transitions from a supply chain development perspective.
- Drive alignment between engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain to ensure manufacturability and supply continuity.
- Assess supply chain and manufacturing risks related to supplier changes, process changes, material substitutions, and factory transitions.
- Evaluate quality, delivery, and continuity risks associated with engineering and manufacturing changes.
- Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to review, approve, and govern changes impacting HDD manufacturing supply chains.
- Identify and mitigate quality risks introduced through supply chain or manufacturing changes.
- Lead initiatives to improve supply chain performance, including cost, yield, cycle time, capacity utilization, and on-time delivery.
- Serve as a key interface between Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and external manufacturing partners.
- Provide clear data-driven recommendations to leadership on supply chain readiness, risks, and trade-offs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the WD manufacturing supply chain.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related technical field.
- Experience supporting manufacturing supply chains, preferably in high-volume factory environments.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain risk, and quality management principles.
- Demonstrated ability to assess risk, manage change, and lead cross-functional initiatives.
PREFERRED:
- Experience in HDD manufacturing or complex electromechanical products.
- Experience working with external manufacturing partners and global supply chains.
- Familiarity with NPI, change management, and supplier quality processes.
