Assistant Chief Engineer

Job Description Summary

Responsible for supporting the overall management and operation of the Engineering Department, ensuring the hotel’s facilities, equipment, and building systems are maintained in a safe, efficient, and reliable condition. The position oversees preventive and corrective maintenance, renovation and improvement projects, energy conservation initiatives, and compliance with all statutory health, safety, and fire regulations. In the absence of the Chief Engineer, this position is responsible for managing the Engineering Department and ensuring all maintenance activities are completed efficiently while maintaining high standards of guest comfort and service.

The role also works closely with other hotel departments to understand operational priorities, provide technical support, promote a strong safety culture, and ensure the smooth and sustainable operation of the property. Within this, the key responsibilities for this position are:

• To plan and manage all preventative maintenance work, new projects, extensions, and renovations.
• To comply with all statutory and legal requirements for fire, health and safety licensing and provide all necessary safety equipment required for work to be carried out efficiently and safely.
• To continually monitor the responsible use of energy in the hotel, and implement measures resulting in energy cost savings.
• To manage the department, in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
• Ensure that all maintenance requests are prioritised and are dealt with in an efficient manner, by technically proficient and guest-friendly technicians

Qualifications

• He/she ideally should be certified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Must be familiar with the operations and priorities of all other hotel operating departments.
• Advise other colleagues on Health & Safety rules and processes.
