Lead Software Engineer (Time Series)

About the Role

The Lead Software Engineer will perform development activities in an agile team, leading on technical solutions, design and writing quality code as well as software testing. This role requires the delivery of good quality software to meet customers' needs. Coaching and mentoring team members alongside leadership skills are needed for this role.

Responsibilities

• Engage with product owners, architects and technical specialists to understand business and technical requirements and translate them into detailed design specifications for application code and modules.
• Provide design recommendations, develop and integrate programs per written specifications, and occasionally write moderate to high complexity design specifications.
• Build and maintain efficient, reusable, reliable and secure code based on user requirements.
• Participate in refinement and planning sessions; analyze development requirements, provide design options and complexity estimates, and agree how to deliver requirements efficiently.
• Collaborate with product owners to implement solutions that meet customer needs and align with agreed architecture designs.
• Create and execute automated tests to ensure software quality; practice Test Driven Development (TDD) and/or Behavior Driven Development (BDD).
• Perform code reviews with junior staff to ensure code quality and adherence to development practices.
• Identify and drive improvements to operational efficiency and development practices.

Qualifications

• Master/Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years' experience in software architecture design and development.
• Knowledge of architecture design guidelines and development practices.
• Knowledge and practical experience of Distributed System Design and implementation.
• Expertise in Java, Python and/or JavaScript.
• Experience with Cloud technology.
• Experience of SQL and databases.
• Proven technical background with understanding of programming styles, frameworks, design patterns and unit testing.
• Understanding of security implications and secure coding practices.
• Practical experience with agile development methodologies and tools (Scrum, JIRA etc.).
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
• Skill for writing clean, readable code and reusable components.
• Experience with Test Driven Development and/or Behavior Driven Development.
• Self-motivated, pressure-tolerant, result-oriented, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
