Join WWF International as a Senior Project Officer to lead wildlife monitoring and support infrastructure design for the Connectivity Conservation Program, focusing on the Dawna Tenasserim Landscape.
รายละเอียดงาน
Background
- For more than 50 years, WWF has worked to safeguard the future of nature. Operating in over 100 countries and supported by nearly five million members worldwide, WWF combines global reach with a strong scientific foundation to deliver solutions that balance the needs of people and nature.
- The Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex (KKFC) lies within the transboundary Dawna Tenasserim Landscape (DTL), the largest contiguous forested area in mainland Southeast Asia, covering approximately 18,000 km². Around 81.6% of the landscape remains forested (Global Forest Watch, 2018), including extensive protected areas such as Thailand’s Western Forest Complex (WEFCOM). The DTL spans the Dawna and Tenasserim mountain ranges, forms a critical regional watershed, and provides essential habitat for a wide range of endangered and endemic species across Thailand and Myanmar.
- In response to the conservation importance of this landscape, WWF-Thailand is launching the Rewilding the Dawna Tenasserim Program, a five-year initiative to restore the Tenasserim Corridor—a 120 km natural linkage connecting Thailand’s two key tiger landscapes, the Western Forest Complex and the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex, both World Heritage Sites.
- The program will work with local communities, government agencies, and landholders to strengthen community forest management, improve habitat connectivity within remaining forest areas, and reduce the impacts of infrastructure barriers on wildlife movement. Ultimately, the program aims to halt forest fragmentation and restore ecological connectivity, supporting the long-term movement and survival of wildlife across the Tenasserim Corridor.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Technical assistance:
Tenasserim Corridor and KKFC wildlife monitoring
- Develop and implement wildlife monitoring plans aligned with corridor and KKFC objectives, including calculating ungulate prey indices to support area management that enhances habitat capacity for ungulate populations.
- Identify priority species and indicators (e.g. tigers, elephants, prey species) relevant to the Tenasserim Corridor and KKFC.
- Coordinate and conduct field surveys in collaboration with DNP rangers, community monitors, and project partners.
- Oversee camera trap deployment, maintenance, retrieval, and data management.
- Train and support DNP staff, rangers, and local monitors on wildlife monitoring techniques.
- Support basic data analysis and interpretation of monitoring results related to Tenasserim Corridor and KKFC.
- Utilize satellite imagery to interpret land use conditions within the Tenasserim corridor to plan for potential wildlife habitat.
- Collect and manage wildlife monitoring and its data for project MEL systems to contribute to the technical report preparation.
- Document lessons learned and best practices for corridor-level wildlife monitoring.
Alternative design concepts for linear infrastructure
- Support the development of evidence-based alternative design concepts for linear infrastructure (e.g. wildlife overpasses, underpasses, and mitigation measures) to maintain ecological connectivity with a consultant team.
- Compile, analyze, and synthesize ecological, spatial, and key species and other wildlife presence data to inform design options and technical recommendations.
- Coordinate with government agencies, developers, consultants, and technical experts to ensure alignment with conservation objectives and regulatory requirements.
