Intern - Manufacturing Engineer, (Start in January 2027)

We are seeking an Automation Design Engineer Intern (Intern - Manufacturing Engineer) to start in January 2027. This is a part-time, onsite internship providing hands-on experience in tooling, fixture design, and workstation optimization.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of tooling, jigs, and fixtures for manufacturing automation
• Support concept designs for component handling systems and workstation layouts
• Create 2D/3D CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks or similar software
• Conduct basic tolerance studies, GD&T analysis, and simulations to verify design
• Support engineering projects from concept to implementation under the guidance of senior engineers
• Assist in project scheduling, documentation, and reporting
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth execution of automation solutions
• Coordinate with vendors for the procurement of engineering components and materials
• Help analyze and troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, and automation equipment
• Participate in feasibility studies for new product transfers and process enhancements
• Contribute to Lean Manufacturing initiatives and workspace optimization efforts

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Automation and Robotics Engineering or equivalent experience
• Basic proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software
• Strong interest in mechanical design, automation, and engineering analysis
• Basic understanding of GD&T, simulations, and tolerance studies (preferred but not required)
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good command of spoken and written English
• Ability to work in a team environment and learn quickly
• Preferred: basic knowledge of automation systems, robotic handling, or manufacturing processes
• Preferred: exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or ISO standards
• Preferred: previous internship or project experience in automation or mechanical design
