About the Company
St Andrews International School Bangkok is one of 88 schools in the Nord Anglia Education (NAE) family. We offer a British educational curriculum with an international perspective from Nursery up to the International Baccalaureate Diploma (Year 13). The school is inclusive and hosts more than 2,400 students across Primary and High School campuses, representing around 68 nationalities. About the Role
English Learning Support Assistants (ELSAs) are full- or part-time members of the English as an Additional Language (EAL) Department. ELSAs work alongside classroom, subject and EAL teachers to help students access the curriculum and achieve their potential. They may focus on identified students and also support learning for all students in class. The role also involves working with the Learning Support department to assist children with specific needs.
Responsibilities
- Build caring and supportive relationships with students and work effectively with class and subject teachers.
- Communicate professionally with parents and liaise with teachers to review student progress.
- Attend lessons punctually and participate at the direction of the EAL coordinator or class teacher.
- Review lesson plans in advance and adapt activities to suit student needs.
- Use clear communication strategies such as picture cues, word mats and gestures; clarify instructions and content orally and in writing.
- Support reading tasks to build skills and motivation and lead small group phonics sessions.
- Plan and deliver small group interventions and encourage positive behaviour and peer interactions.
- Help students take responsibility for their own learning and assist on school trips, cultural events, productions and inter-school activities.
- Support school and departmental duties, including teaching resources and displays, and contribute to the extra-curricular programme by offering an activity.
Qualifications
- Proficient in English (CEFR Level C1, IELTS Band 6.5+ or equivalent).
- Experience teaching English as an Additional/Foreign Language.
- Understanding of phonics and the Letters and Sounds phases.
- Ideally experienced in supporting children with ADHD, mild autism, dyslexia or similar needs.
Additional Information
- All staff are expected to contribute positively to the school's extra-curricular programme.
- Appointment subject to at least two references (including one from the most recent employer), a ten-year criminal record check and relevant regional Prohibition Order/DBS checks.
- Post holders in regulated activity are subject to national and international vetting procedures, including satisfactory criminal record checks from country of residence/birth and any country of residence within the last 10 years.
